BLAIR MEMOIRS BREAK SALES RECORDS

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair has been in the news a lot recently, with much of the reporting focussing on the money he has earned since leaving office.  From the bitter and somewhat narrow minded tone of much of the commentary, he has made what some journalists obviously consider to be an unacceptable, even indecent, amount of money.  Undoubtedly, those responsible for the most negative reporting must be really fuming now at the announcement that his new book ‘A Journey’ has become Waterstone’s fastest selling autobiography ever while also shooting to the top of Amazon’s best seller list, all on the first day of publication.

A spokesman for Waterstones said the sales figures were “stupendous” and “unprecedented” before adding "We've never seen a book like this sell so quickly in one day. It's selling in the sort of numbers you don't see outside of mass market fiction with huge appeal - Dan Brown and JK Rowling are the competition here.”

Another slap in the face for his critics will be the fact that Mr Blair is donating all proceeds from the book, including his £4.6million advance, to the Royal British Legion "as a way of marking the enormous sacrifice the armed forces make for the security of our people and the world".

Furthermore, the book’s success hasn’t just been limited to the UK, currently it stands as 12th and 9th bestseller lists in the U.S and Canada respectively.

Since leaving the political arena, Tony Blair seems to have had the Midas touch, enjoying success after success which surely is something we should applaud not lambast.
