More and more rumours abound today surrounded Samsung's Android powered Galaxy Tablet. Pricing is on the agenda today, with leaks suggesting prices could be anywhere from $700-$900 in the US, or around £600 here. That's a pretty hefty price tag. Then O2 Germany jumped onto the bandwagon and announced it's pricing would be roughly €759, making it about $900 in the US, or again around £600 here. Compared the the iPad, that's high.
However, the according to the official press release, here's the specs:
Note two things. One, on launch its going to run Android 2.2, so that's Froyo. However, Samsungs head of product planning, WP Hong, has stated publicly that the next Android version, Gingerbread, will be coming shortly after launch. Second interesting thing, is that the tablet will be able to make calls, something that the iPad can't do. With the front facing camera, like the iPhone 4, video calls are a certainty.
What'll we'll be waiting to see then, is which mobile operators clutch the device to their chest and offer it subsidised on a monthly contract. A decent size discount could see major sales of the device, and we could have an iPad beater on our hands. There's certainly enough buzz around it so far...
